I didn’t start my career with global health care in mind—I began with a simple desire to support people in some of their most vulnerable moments. Over more than 20 years in healthcare, I’ve come to understand that real change happens when compassion meets collaboration. My work has taken me across Canada, where I’ve helped design innovative programs, advance education, and build bridges between communities, healthcare providers, and policymakers.
One of the most meaningful parts of my journey was partnering with Dr. Sharon Kaasalainen and an incredible team through the SPA-LTC program at McMaster University. Together, we developed best practices for palliative care in long-term care settings—working to empower staff and families with knowledge and support.
My approach has always been to meet people where they are—whether that’s at the diagnosis of a life-limiting illness or in the moments of bereavement—and to ensure each person feels seen, heard, and cared for. Bringing together advanced pain and symptom management, Advance Care Planning, and trauma-informed, culturally sensitive care is how I try to honor the dignity of every individual. I believe that strengthening our healthcare system starts with caring for the caregivers and building communities grounded in empathy, trust, and respect.
